Will Smith Boycotted Grammy in 1989 for Not Appreciating His Work
It feels like a curse on the actor’s career.
Grammy Awards set an example for Will Smith first. The scandalous actor seems to have a long history with slaps.
Over three decades ago, the biggest music industry event organizers decided to cut off the broadcasting of Will Smith’s and Jazzy Jeff’s nomination category. In his talk with Entertainment Tonight, the “Man in Black” actor characterized it as a “slap in face”. Was it coincidence or planned revenge, he managed to grab the audience’s attention with his slap on Oscar.
“We don't have the problem with the Grammy as an award or the Grammy as an institution, we just had a problem with the 1989 design of the awards show. We chose to boycott. We feel that it's a slap in the face.”
