The actor was lucky that time.
It would sound strange, but an earthquake saved Jean Claude Van Damme from a lot of debt. Nature’s powers had planned something special for man’s adversary.
Van Damme once won a court case filed against him by martial arts legend Frank Dux. When the latter sued Jean for breach of contract, a Los Angeles court ruled in the actor’s favor.
Dux claimed to have co-written the 1996 box office “The Quest”. According to his testimony, the filmmaker took away his screen credit and share of the profits. Unfortunately for Frank, the jury didn’t believe he had a tape of an oral agreement about the script. What was worse, the martial artist insisted the evidence got lost in an earthquake, buried under three tons of concrete. Dux wanted $900,000 in damages, so it was a good thing Jean won.
