Turned out that one of the greatest athletes of all time was also one of the most superstitious ones, especially regarding footwear. Williams had a special rule about tying her tennis shoes. Before every match, she would lace them according to a stringent pattern. In the past, she even chalked up certain losses to deviation from the rule.
