Jackson admitted he never learned the art of writing and reading music. It was enough for the guru to sing the melody that arose in his head and record it. Then the artist presented his creation to the guitarist or other bandmate, and it always turned into a hit.
“I'll just sing the bass part into the tape recorder. I'll take that bass lick and put the chords of the melody over the bass lick and that's what inspires the melody.”
