The artist broke a music stereotype.
Ed Sheeran would have probably remained a street singer if not for the turning point in his life. The ukulele and the raw talent convinced even the representatives of the brutal black community.
Jamie Foxx provided a warm place for the then-unknown red-head singer to stay at. Sheeran knew that the comedian had connections with prestigious musicians and turned to him for help. Before letting Ed perform for the rap lovers, Foxx freed his studio couch for 6 weeks.
As Jamie admitted in his interview, no one from the audience believed in the future star. All of them were into rap and gangsta lyrics. But as soon as the “Perfect” hitmaker got up on stage and sang his touching words, he got standing ovations.
“Ed Sheeran slept on my couch for six weeks before he was famous. He comes to my crib, plays and I’m like ‘you’re incredible.' I said, ‘Listen, I know you don’t have anywhere to go, just chill here.’ I took him down to this show and there were like 800 black people. He pops out with his little red hair and an ukulele. One of my homies says ‘Come on man, what’s this man?’ I said, ‘Well, let's see what the kid has.’ and got a standing ovation for 12 minutes. The rest is history.”
