Jack Ma’s genius didn’t recognize any obstacles on his way to success. At the age of twelve, the entrepreneur’s love for the English language was so intense even the absence of books couldn’t stop him. Ma found an alternative learning solution.
As a teenager, Jack perfected his English skills by giving free tours to visitors on the West Lake in Hangzhou. The young boy would ride his bike to the local hotel every day for 9 years. The knowledge he acquired was priceless and couldn’t be found in school or anywhere else.
“I don’t know why at 12, 13 years old, I suddenly fell in love with the language, English. And there is no place where you can learn English at that time.So, I went to the Hangzhou hotel because that was the hotel that received the foreign visitors. I showed them around as a free guide and they taught me English”
