The actor literally built the door to success.

Harrison Ford was close to being rejected for his most brilliant role in movie history. Fortunately, George Lucas’ ambitions were destroyed by the unexpected meeting of the two.

The “Star Wars” director was reluctant to take Ford for the Han Solo character because he had already cast the latter in “American Graffiti”. To feature new faces in the upcoming masterpiece, George instantly excluded the possibility. Luckily, as the future Hollywood star stated once, he used to work as a carpenter.

And his job led him to the same office door where the “Star Wars” casting took place. Lucas couldn’t resist the temptation to listen to the actor read the script. Only a few words and Han Solo’s player was chosen.

“Through carpentry, I fed my family and began to pick and choose from among the roles offered. I could afford to hold out until something better came along. But I never gave up my ambition to be an actor. I was frustrated but never felt defeated by my frustration.”
