The billionaire couldn't sacrifice his reputation.
Elon Musk seems to be going against the rules of the new world. His email, leaked to social media, caused a wave of disagreement among the employees.
While all major companies offer their staff a choice between working from the office and working from home, Elon Musk refused to give such a privilege. The “SpaceX” and “Tesla” CEO demanded his team’s presence amid the pandemic. Otherwise, they would face termination. The entrepreneur called remote mode a “pseudo office”, forcing everyone to spend a minimum of 40 hours in the actual building per week:
“Anyone who wishes to do remote work must be in the office for a minimum (and I mean minimum) of 40 hours per week or depart Tesla. You must be where your actual colleagues are located, not some remote pseudo office.”
