The mother of Dylan, Diane McDermott, was shot by her boyfriend, Sponza when the actor was five years old. According to Police Superintendent Michael Gugliotti, the star was standing outside the apartment but heard the gunshot. After years Dylan asked authorities to re-examine the case and substantiated his action with the need for closure
