Brad Pitt’s Toyota Ad Banned in Malaysia because of Actor’s Appearance
The actor’s look hindered his growth.
Brad Pitt could have never thought that his handsome appearance would be a career-stopper. Some people couldn’t put up with the star’s perfection and did everything to exclude him from promos.
Hong Kong, an advertising campaign for Toyota starring Brad, had been banned in Malaysia because the government deemed it an insult to Asians. The content of the ad was not a problem for the sensitive Malaysian politicians.
It was simply the face and appearance of Pitt, his blue eyes, light hair, etc. According to Malaysian deputy information minister Zainuddin Maidin, the ad would plant a sense of inferiority among Asians.
“Why must we use their faces in our advertisements? Aren't our own people handsome enough?”
