Shootings took the wrong turn.
The extraordinary actor Benedict Cumberbatch once tasted the fear of death. The “To the Ends of the Earth” BBC production had all the chances to be his final one.
The “Sherlock” star and his crew were kidnapped while filming the series in South Africa. The scary incident happened in 2004 and marked the breaking point of the actor’s life. Being so close to the end changed Benedict’s viewpoint on everyday things.
Later in his interview with Vanity Fair, Benedict resolved to embrace the “interesting”.
“I was definitely more impatient to live a life less ordinary. I wanted to swim in the sea that I saw the next morning. If you feel you’re going to die, you don’t think you’re going to have all those sensations again — a cold beer, a cigarette, the feel of sun on your skin. All those hit you as firsts again. It is, in a way, a new beginning.”
