A desert serves a memoir of his ambitious ideas.

Nathan Mendelson’s venture had all the prospects of becoming a very successful project. However, something went wrong and now only the ghost city reminds about the failure of a once promising project.

In the early 60s , Mendelson, a sociologist and an adherent of urbanistic ideas, decided to settle in the Mojave desert, that is some hundred meters away from Los Angeles. The entrepreneur obtained more than 82000 hectares of land in this godforsaken place.

The California city had to become the third largest settled city in the US. He even launched a campaign, marking the roads and districts. In 1969, Mendelson even sold future living space to 1.3 thousand residents.

Yet, many of them later appealed against the entrepreneur, once they realized in what territory the future city would be built. A dessert instead of a paradise. Thus, Mendelson’s plan had an epic fail.

Currently, the population of the city is about 14000 residents, the majority of which are inmates of the local prison.
