The star could have lost her career.

For a long time, Adele had an obsession causing trouble in her personal life. That addiction even made the star think about death.

One of the most beloved voices, Adele, had been very open in the past about smoking cigarettes. But as the singer later revealed, she gave up the habit of worrying about her future health. Turns out cancer ran in the British family. Her father, Marc Evans, was diagnosed with bowel cancer.

According to the U.K. publication, Adele had been smoking an average of 25 cigarettes per day when she lost her voice and had to cancel tour dates in 2011. After she underwent surgery to stop a recurrent vocal cord hemorrhage, doctors warned her that her musician’s career would end if she didn’t quit smoking.

“If I’d carried on smoking I’d probably have died from a smoking-related illness, and I think that’s really bad. If I was dying from lung cancer I would have potentially given it to myself, and that wouldn’t be something I’d be proud of.”
