Good things come to those who wait.
Seems like Marlon Brando should have been over the moon for winning an Oscar, but his behavior was somewhat disturbing. The principles were more important than an award.
Sacheen Littlfeather, an American actress and civil rights activist, took the stage in Brando’s stead. She announced that the star wouldn’t be accepting his award for the “treatment of American Indians today by the film industry”.
During Sacheen’s speech, the producer, John Wayne, threatened to have her arrested if she talked for more than 60 seconds. But after 50 years, the Academy formally apologized to Littlefeather for their mistreatment.
Regarding the Academy's apology to me,
We Indians are very patient people. It's only been 50 years! We need to keep our sense of humor about this at all times. It's our method of survival."
