Andrew Garfield Had to Learn Singing to Get a Role

Doing a professional impression may not be enough to nail the role. For "Louder than words," Andrew Garfield had to acquire an entirely different set of skills.

When Lin-Manuel Miranda was looking for a lead to play in his first movie, he asked Andrew's friend, whom they shared in common if the latter could sing, and the man said: "He has an angelic voice!" Even though it was a complete lie, Garfield chose not to set his colleague up or miss the opportunity of portraying Jonathan Larson.

Andrew joyfully confirmed his musical talents after discovering the filming would begin a year later. In that time, he learned to sing and mastered the piano!
