Six years of tyrannic treatment was enough for the star.
Demi Lovato's wrong choice had dangerous consequences for the singer's already disturbed mental state. Constantly fighting for her life, she ended up in a home prison.
The previous team the Disney channel star was working with tried to turn Demi into a barbie. The manager prohibited Lovato from sugar consumption to make her fit the beauty standards. It reached the point where the artist wasn’t allowed to eat her own birthday cake.
As the “Confident” singer mentioned in the interview with Ellen DeGeneres, the only thing she received for years on occasion was a sugar-free whipped cream on a watermelon.
“I lived a life that I felt wasn’t my own because I struggled really hard with an eating disorder, and that was my primary problem. I felt controlled by so many people. They would take the phone out of the hotel room so I couldn’t call room service. Or if there was fruit in my room, they took it out because that’s extra sugar. For years I did that but I just really wanted a birthday cake. I just remember crying because I was finally eating cake with a manager that didn’t need anything from me.”
