Parents had their reasons.
The famous Ben Affleck was born as Benjamin Geza Affleck-Boldt. The star’s middle name had a significant meaning and a sentimental origin.
During the school years, Affleck accused his parents of choosing a peculiar name for him. The future celebrity was often mocked and called Ben Gay. But once the actor’s mother told him the middle name’s story, he grew to appreciate it.
Affleck was called Geza in honor of his mother’s friend, a Holocaust survivor from Hungary. When Jews were taken to the death camps, Geza jumped from the train and returned to save others. He was the absolute epitome of courage. After hearing this, the Hollywood performer felt proud to carry such heritage.
“My parents named me after a Hungarian friend of theirs named Geza. She told me 6 million Jews were murdered and that men like him, brave and selfless, were what stood between us and the evil that people were capable of doing to one another. That name has never been anything short of a tremendous honor to me since that day.”
