Winston and Clementine Churchill’s First Meeting Wasn’t Impressive at all, His Wife Recalls
Biggest loves grow from ignorance.
The story of one of the most influential couples had a very negative start. 19-years-old Clementine would have never thought that Winston Churchill, a man 10 years older than her, would one day become her husband.
Young Clementine met the then-member of the British Parliament at the age of 19. The politician seemed very cold-hearted and ignorant, so he didn’t even invite her to dance. On their first encounter, Clementine strongly disliked the 29-years-old. 4 years after, they met again at a dinner party. It became a revolutionary meeting that led to the couple’s unity. In the book “Churchill: A Life” authored by Martin Gilbert, Clementine described her first impression of the future Prime Minister:
“Winston just stared. He never uttered one word and was very gauche.”
